Sensory Development
Does your child struggle to pay attention in class, or meltdown after working so hard to keep it together during the day. How about disliking public events you were sure they would love, like the Big Rigs event or fireworks or even the beach? Or do they love to constantly move, never hear you, talk louder than everyone else and always want a huge bear hug? Or do they just seem a little clumsy, find it hard to use their knife and fork and avoid drawing...?
The may struggle with getting used to or getting enough different sensory information!
It can be really hard to figure out what kids love or dislike and its totally normal to compare your child to others around them but every child, just like every adult is different and sometimes they need a bit of help learning how to get used to, get more or avoid certain sensations.
Our sensory systems are continuously developing and when you know what you are working on and you have some simple strategies to help, you can help your young person enjoy more of the activities you both want to do.
